He’s got a script written, the cast of characters developed and fleshed out and animators in place. However, what he needs to bring his vision of an animated web series about a typical American family to life is voice actors.

He’s got a script written, the cast of characters developed and fleshed out and animators in place. However, what he needs to bring his vision of an animated web series about a typical American family to life is voice actors.

The Erin Mills resident has been working on his series, The O’ryans, for the past several years. He hopes to have it as a 15-minute online show that follows the O’ryans – father Neil, mother Pamela, daughter Emily and son Roy, as well as some of their friends and extended family.

Mehta sketches out the ideas for what he wants before sending them along to friends in the Philippines and India who design and animate them. He’s already done some clips and pushed them out using social media and says the response has been positive.

“It’s a comedy based on a typical family in the United States,” said Mehta, 25. “It’s about (the humor found in) everyday life experiences. It’s about an average family and what they typically go through.”

Mehta envisioned the show as a family-friendly comedy that draws on real life rather than the fantastical, like some animated programs. For example, Mehta has a clip up on his website, www.theoryans.com, about the kids getting into a battle over the television remote before it breaks, denying both the opportunity to do what they really wanted, which was to watch TV.

He’s influenced by popular animated shows like The Simpsons and Family Guy as well as Dragon Ball Z. However, he said he also often watched reruns of family-based sitcoms like Happy Days and The Brady Bunch growing up and those made him want to develop a show kids can enjoy.

Not only is he the creative force behind the show, he’s going to be the talent as well. He’s voicing a friend of the father on the show and Amar Mehta is also going to be a character on The O’ryans, albeit an older version of the real Mehta.

Citing how Marvel Comics creative guru Stan Lee always appears on screen in Marvel films, Mehta said he felt he should have some visible role in his creation.

Mehta says he’s currently recruiting voice actors and encourages anyone who might be interested to visit his website to get in contact with him.

He hopes to have the show’s pilot animated and ready for the web by the end of the year.
